Due to the continued public health concerns related to COVID-19, the Nebraska Mennonite Relief Sale board of directors made the difficult decision to keep the 2021 Relief Sale an exclusively online auction. Two auctions were held to raise money for MCC – one for processed pork and one for quilt, art and general auction items.
Processed Pork Auction: Every year, freshly processed pork is donated to the sale to be served at several of the meals as well as packaged and sold in the price foods booth. Even though there wasn’t going to be an in-person event this year, our pork donors still wanted to contribute to the sale. The result, was a processed pork auction where 1/2 hog packages were sold with a set cutting order to be picked up at the processor.
Quilt, Art & General Auction: The second auction was a combination of our usual actions. There was a mixture of quilts, home decor, furniture, fine art, tools, and food. A small group of volunteers gathered at Bethesda Mennonite Church on sale day to organize and distribute the items purchased so they were ready for pickup. A surprise addition to the day included several of our dedicated supporters who set up food stands to sell take-home breads, jellies, and new year’s cookies to people picking up their items.
